KUALA LUMPUR: A senior men’s doubles pair are set to be axed as the Badminton Association of Malaysia (BAM) trim their national squad.
The BAM will conduct their first downsizing exercise in a bid to form a meaner and leaner new Project ’24 squad during the coaching and training committee meeting at the Academy Badminton Malaysia in Bukit Kiara today.
Malaysia last reached the final of the Thomas Cup in 2014 in New Delhi, India, but last won the Cup in 1992 in Kuala Lumpur. The 26-year-old Ee Yi and 24-year-old Yew Sin are the oldest among the three pairs and have struggled to achieve a breakthrough in 2019 – with their best being quarter-final finishes in the China and Hong Kong Opens.
