Senate leaders refused to engage with House Speaker Alan Cayetano's
Senate leaders refused to engage with House Speaker Alan Cayetano’s “sipsip” and “epal” remarks against their chamber for pushing through with the inquiry on ABS-CBN’s legislative franchise and alleged violations.Senator Grace Poe on Wednesday said she would not resort to name-calling, as it would “cheapen” the discussion on the issues hounding the broadcast network.
Cayetano, who was a multi-term senator before returning to the Lower Chamber as Taguig City representative, criticized the Senate for holding a hearing on ABS-CBN without the House bill on its franchise renewal. “You know speaker Cayetano is a very intelligent politician and he has been a lawmaker for many years and our constitution grants both houses of Congress oversight. Section 6 Article 21 allows us to conduct hearings in aid of legislation and find out if franchise holders are compliant with the agreements that they had with the government. That’s number one,” the public services panel chair.
“That’s not true because Sen. Pia Cayetano sponsored that measure on the floor, interpellations have begun,” she said, recalling that the Senate, though, had decided to suspend its Monday session.
