Guide Beauty was created to make makeup application easier for people with fine motor challenges.
. Bryant, who has Parkinson’s disease, launched the ergonomic makeup line in 2020 with dexterity and fine motor challenges top of mind. Today, Blair has been announced as Chief Creative Officer of Guide Beauty. “The products are a game changer,” says Blair. The line is designed with curves and rings that make gripping the handles secure, graceful, and “like an extension of my hand,” Blair explains.
While there are no complete statistics about how many people experience fine motor difficulties, hand tremors and hand strength challenges are symptoms of a wide range of conditions including Parkinson’s, MS, autism, rheumatoid arthritis, diabetes, traumatic brain injury, thyroid disorders, and chronic stress. In other words, there is a wide world of women and men who might find typical makeup products and tools difficult or impossible to use.
Soon after her diagnosis, Bryant dove into the world of universal design, a theory that factors for those with the greatest needs with the idea that it leads to better design for all. Past examples of universal design that are now commonplace include
