On Tuesday, February 4, Gomez went live on Instagram to announce the upcoming launch of Rare Beauty, which appears to be predominantly a makeup brand — though she may bag to differ. "It’s not just a brand. It’s going to be a lifestyle," she told viewers.
Sitting on a couch and wearing a yellow sweater and red lipstick, the singer and actor told viewers that she's been working on Rare Beauty for two years, and she has a strong vision for the vibe she wants it to send. "I wanted to make a brand where you feel comfortable. You know, I think people feel the pressure — I know I do — where you kind of feel like you need to look like everyone else or you should get this because that's what everybody else gets," she said.
That undercurrent of individuality is expressed in the promotional posts up on the new Rare Beauty Instagram page. "I want us all to stop comparing ourselves to each other and start embracing our own uniqueness," Gomez says in a voice-over. "You're not defined by a photo, a like, or a comment. Rare Beauty isn't about how other people see you. It's about how you see yourself.
At this point, there's virtually no information about what products will be offered — the video above implies that there will be lip colors and complexion products, at the very least, and theknow is that Rare Beauty will be launching at Sephora this summer.
