The Selangor government will implement stricter land management procedures to prevent manipulation following the discovery of illegal land ownership transfers at the Klang District and Land Office (PDT). While authorities described the case as isolated, the government emphasized the seriousness of the situation. 'This offense occurred during the transition from manual land management to the digital e-Tanah system.
Although it is not a common occurrence, it highlights vulnerabilities within the system,' said Amirudin Shari, Menteri Besar of Selangor. He pledged to enhance procedures, particularly data entry and output processes, to eliminate any opportunities for manipulation. Amirudin also assured that disciplinary action would be taken against those involved, adhering to public service regulations. A domestic inquiry through a disciplinary committee would be conducted, but law enforcement agencies were granted permission to complete their investigations first. 'If (those responsible) are proven guilty, we will take further action based on the findings,' he stated.Amirudin acknowledged the complexity of the offense, implying it couldn't have been carried out by a single individual. 'It could have involved collusion among several parties, including officers identifying land lists, IT personnel altering data, and others working in concert,' he suggested. Earlier reports indicated that police had uncovered a cartel involved in illegal land ownership transfers at Klang PDT. Investigations, initiated in September, led to the arrest of 17 suspects linked to the scheme for allegedly transferring ownership of 9.4 hectares of land valued at RM7.1 million. Separately, the Green House Project launched on Sunday is part of the 2024 Food Security Strengthening Programme, aiming to bolster local food production through innovative agricultural technologies. The project, implemented at 50 locations nationwide, incorporates Microfarm and Greenkit technologies featuring self-watering systems that optimize crop productivity in confined spaces without relying on electricity. Instead, gravity-fed irrigation is employed.'These systems also include rain protection structures and insect-proof nets to safeguard crops from extreme weather and pests,' explained Datuk Dr Mohamad Zabawi Abdul Ghani, director-general of the Malaysian Agricultural Research and Development Institute (Mardi). 'This initiative empowers farmers to produce fresh, high-quality vegetables while reducing living expenses and improving access to safer food sources,' he added. – Bernam
