Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah said to date there are approximately 15,000 tahfiz students studying in 263 private schools under the Selangor Islamic Religious Department throughout the state. His Highness’ decree follow suit the recent announcement by Federal Territories Minister Khalid Abdul Samad in September last year that unregistered tahfiz centres in Kuala Lumpur would be closed down, to ensure the safety and welfare of students as well as preserving the image of Islamic religious institutions.
