Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah expressed concern over Muslims being influenced by negative religious teachings and called for unity and reliance on authentic Islamic sources.

Shah Alam: Selangor Ruler Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah has expressed concern over Muslims who are easily swayed by negative religious teachings, potentially leading them astray. He emphasized that numerous avenues exist for obtaining authentic religious information aligned with the Ahli Sunnah Wal Jamaah school of thought. 'In our country, a plethora of Islam ic books are readily available, printed and translated into Bahasa Melayu.

Information is also accessible online,' Sultan Sharafuddin stated during his royal address at the closing of the state-level Al-Quran Recitation and Memorisation event (Tilawah dan Hafazan Al-Quran) at the Sultan Salahuddin Abdul Aziz Shah mosque on Friday, February 7th. 'During my time learning religion, such resources were scarce. There were no books on Islamic teachings in Bahasa Melayu, and even those available were in Bahasa Indonesia, which was difficult to understand,' he recalled. The Ruler acknowledged the ease with which Muslims can acquire in-depth Islamic knowledge today due to the abundance of Bahasa Melayu translations. However, he lamented that despite the availability of numerous religious books with explanations by Islamic scholars, many Muslims fall prey to misinformation and are easily influenced by the propaganda of deviant teachings. 'If Muslims are constantly deceived by religious teachings rooted in superstition and falsehood, they will lag behind in every aspect of life,' Sultan Sharafuddin warned. 'Such deviant influences will further divide Muslims and make them vulnerable to oppression by the enemies of Islam.' He urged Muslims to consult religious authorities on matters pertaining to Islam and to avoid being swayed by deviant teachings. Sultan Sharafuddin stressed the importance of unity as a cornerstone in the lives of Muslims, particularly the Malay community. He emphasized that Islam, in its entirety, is a beautiful religion that can serve as a foundation for societal unity. The Sultan also called upon religious authorities to be more resolute in addressing matters related to deviant teachings, advocating for more assertive legal and enforcement actions to prevent these teachings from continuing to harm Muslims and create divisions within the community
