Chief statistician Uzir Mahidin says Petaling district has the highest life expectancy at birth for both sexes with 80.5 years.
Selangor, Kuala Lumpur, Putrajaya, Labuan and Sarawak are the five states with the highest life expectancy for 2021 to 2023.
In a publication, titled “Abridged Life Tables, Malaysia 2021-2023”, the department said the highest life expectancy at birth for males and females by state was recorded by Selangor, while Terengganu recorded the lowest life expectancy for the same period. “The highest life expectancy at birth for males and females by administrative districts for 2023 was recorded in Petaling, Selangor while Samarahan, Sarawak recorded the“The life expectancy at birth was highest for males in Petaling, Selangor and females in Kalabakan, Sabah ,” he said.
The publication presents data by age, ethnicity and sex at national and state levels for the three years.The department also revealed that for the period of 2013 to 2019, the life expectancy at birth increased by 0.3 years, with males increasing by 0.2 years, and females 0.5 years.
