Sedona has recently authorized two large purchases of undeveloped land within city limits to be used at least in part for affordable housing.
As housing prices continue to skyrocket across northern Arizona, leaders in Sedona are trying to take things into their own hands by purchasing some of the last undeveloped land in the city to be used at least in part for affordable housing.
The empty lot borders a storage facility and recycling plant on the city’s west side and will need to be rezoned as residential before the project begins. Just weeks after buying the lot on Shelby Drive, the city council voted unanimously to move forward with a $20 million plan to purchase the 41-acre Sedona Cultural Park that has remained largely unused for two decades.
After the most recent deal to bring a hotel chain to the site fell through, city leaders voted unanimously to purchase the park themselves.
