The Nation Newspaper Securitisation can help govt to fast-track growth, says Amolegbe
Securitisation of current assets and future financial expectations could help the Federal Government to generate immediate funding necessary to fast-track implementation of its economic reforms and development of key infrastructure., said such financial creativity like securitisation will allow the government to break its illiquidity and quicken the pace of implementation of its economic programme.
“For instance, let’s say a bank has some loans in its books that it will like to get rid of, it could package them in form of a marketable securities and sell them to interested investors in return for immediate liquidity. Those investors that buy those securities now get exposure to the debts that had been sold off and they can expect to earn principal and interest on the securities they bought,” Amolegbe said.
Amolegbe, a former president of Chartered Institute of Stockbrokers , who spoke on Channels Television, said the securitisation of the NLNG dividends would not only help government to stabilise the foreign exchange market but also deepen the knowledge, assets and creativity of the Nigerian financial markets.
