El secretario adjunto de Estado para la Oficina de Asuntos del Hemisferio Occidental, Brian A.

Nichols, visitó la semana pasada la región de San Diego y Tijuana en medio de lo que llamó 'tiempos sin precedentes' en el tema migratorio. 'Nunca en la historia de la humanidad hemos tenido tantos migrantes en movimiento como ahora', dijo Nichols luego de dar una charla en el Instituto de las Américas de la Universida de California San Diego el pasado martes.

En las últimas semanas miles de migrantes de diferentes nacionalidades —muchos de ellos solicitantes de asilo— han llegado a la frontera entre San Diego y México. De acuerdo con datos del condado, más de 13 mil han sido liberados una vez que son procesados por autoridades estadounidenses. El condado también estima que el 98 por ciento de ellos, se dirige a otras partes del país una vez que son liberados en San Diego.
