An Albanese government minister is visiting China for key talks on trade and investment amid Labor's continued push for the removal of Beijing's trade sanctions on Australian goods.

An Albanese government minister has hailed"another important step" in stabilising the relationship between Canberra and Beijing amid a key trip to China.

He is also the first Australian minister since 2016 to attend the forum, which he says provides a"high-level dialogue... to discuss regional economic and trade issues". "I will use the panel discussion to highlight the Albanese government's strong action on climate change, which has put us in the front row to capitalise on trade and investment opportunities from the global transition to net zero."

"China is Australia's largest trading partner, and the Albanese government continues to advocate for the timely and full resumption of trade to China, which is in the interests of both countries," Mr Ayres said. Trade Minister Don Farrell meanwhile accepted an invitation last month from China's Minister of Commerce Wang Wentaoto to visit China at an unspecified date.

Victorian Premier Daniel Andrews is also visiting China this week on a separate trip, and will hold a series of meetings across Beijing, Jiangsu and Sichuan.
