Right now, the Seattle Police Department has 937 officers who are actively working. The department says it currently needs to fill 375 positions.
SEATTLE — Seattle Mayor Bruce Harrell and the Seattle Police Department said they are seeing more officer applications than they have in the past couple of years, but according to SPD, it will take years to fully rebuild their force.
A new police recruitment video featuring the mayor was just released two weeks ago. In the advertisement he says, in part: Since 2020, recruitment has been low, but SPD said they are seeing more applicants testing and going through background checks than they have seen in the past couple of years.
