Data shows how Harris County precincts voted in the Houston mayoral and District G City Council races.
Houston will have to wait until the Dec. 9 runoff to find out who the next mayor will be, since neither state Sen. John Whitmire nor U.S. Rep. Sheila Jackson Lee received a majority of the vote in Tuesday's election. Both are career politicians with deep roots in the city, but neither candidate managed to drum up the high voter turnout that some were forecasting -- even within their long-held home districts. Still, Whitmire finished roughly 7 percentage points ahead of Jackson Lee.
Areas that are deeper shades of teal voted more strongly for Jackson Lee while areas that are deeper shades of yellow voted more strongly for Whitmire. District G results In addition to the mayoral race, several city council races are headed to a runoff in December, including the high-profile race in District G between incumbent Mary Nan Huffman and lawyer Tony Buzbee, who most recently represented Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton in his impeachment trial that ultimately led to acquittal.
