The search and rescue (SAR) operation for a deputy principal who was feared to have drowned while fishing in a floating house in Jeti Chenor, Pekan Lama Chenor, Maran, near here, resumed this morning at 8 am. Maran District Police Chief Supt Wong Kim Wai said the operation to find Murdani Ab Rahman, 53, was suspended at 9.30 pm yesterday due to unfavorable weather conditions. Murdani, who teaches at Tengku Ampuan Afzan Secondary School Chenor, went fishing with a colleague at Jeti Chenor's floating house around 5.50 pm when he fell into the river and was swept away by the current. Wong said the victim's absence was realized at 6 pm and his colleague, who was nearby, tried to save him, but was unsuccessful.

Beliau berkata Murdani yang bertugas di Sekolah Menengah Tengku Ampuan Afzan Chenor bersama rakannya telah pergi ke rumah rakit jeti Chenor untuk memancing kira-kira pukul 5.50 petang sebelum terjatuh ke dalam sungai dan dihanyutkan oleh arus sungai. “Pada lebih kurang pukul 8 malam, pihak polis dari Ibu Pejabat Polis Daerah Maran bersama agensi penyelamat daerah Maran, seperti Jabatan Bomba dan Penyelamat Malaysia serta Agensi Pertahanan Awam Malaysia telah menjalankan operasi SAR bagi mengesan mangsa.
