Red Earth Cree Nation Chief Fabian Head, in a virtual media conference Friday afternoon, said sonar and aircraft are being used to aid with ground search efforts, and several volunteer crews have come in to help from other First Nations communities and non-First Nation organizations. They have been meeting with Young’s family daily and have been providing updates, he added.
The search resumed early on Friday morning. On Thursday, aerial searches were conducted for more than six hours, Sgt. Richard Tonge, officer in charge of the Carrot River RCMP, said. “We’d like to call on other communities, First Nations alike, as well as people that will provide the ongoing support for the search little Frank,” he said, asking that any volunteers report to authorities leading the search.
Chief Fabian Head said he will be calling on the federal government for additional mental health and wellness supports for the community. Local Victim Service and child and family services are available to community members.
