‘The coaching staff’s drive to win and the feeling I got from being around the program’ makes all the difference
Class of 2025 recruit Gavin Garretson committed to SDSU coach Sean Lewis on the field before Saturday’s game at Snapdragon Stadium. Sean Lewis was surveying the scene during warmups at Snapdragon Stadium before Saturday night’s game against Oregon State when he was approached near midfield by a high school recruit who sees eye-to-eye with the San Diego State football coach.They greeted each other with a handshake.
“I knew the place was for me because I constantly wanted to come back every time I left,” Gavin said. “I’m definitely excited to be a full-time Aztec.”On offense, he has five catches for 52 yards and a touchdown through two games this season. He totaled 20 receptions for 312 yards and five touchdowns a year ago. On defense, he has two sacks and seven tackles. It was last year’s 16 1/2 sacks among 30 tackles that opened some eyes to his rushing skills off the edge.
All commitments are verbal and nonbinding. Players cannot sign national letters-of-intent until the NCAA’s early signing period begins Dec. 4.
