An eerie fanmade poster for the potential sequel Scream 7 excellently foreshadows the possible return of original killer Stu Macher (Matthew Lillard).
A Scream 7 fan poster imagines what the film's advertising might look like if Stu Macher returned as Ghostface. The character, who was played by Matthew Lillard, was one of the two killers in the original 1996 Scream and was killed at the end of the film by having a TV smashed on his head by Sidney Prescott .
SCREENRANT VIDEO OF THE DAY SCROLL TO CONTINUE WITH CONTENT Today, professional poster designer Creepy Duck Design shared a new poster for the as-yet unconfirmed follow-up Scream 7, teasing Stu's Scream franchise return. The poster bears the tagline "Surprise, Sidney," which is a line spoken by Stu during the killer reveal at the end of the original movie. It also features Ghostface punching through the television that was used to "kill" Stu, which features a faded image from the original film.
Could Stu Come Back in the Scream Franchise? So far, Scream 7 hasn't been officially greenlit. However, it is more than likely to go into production sometime in the next few years, probably after the end of the ongoing 2023 writers strike. Scream VI was a box office hit and became the highest-grossing installment in the franchise by the end of its run earlier this year, making a sequel seem somewhat inevitable.
While no former Ghostface killers have ever returned to the franchise, the production team behind the new Scream films have sent quite a few mixed signals about Stu's return, both behind-the-scenes and onscreen. For instance, in Scream VI, Mindy has a line confirming that there are rumors that Stu isn't actually dead. However, another death later in the film uses the same TV that killed Stu to kill another victim, proving that method's overall effectiveness.
