Schools across the state are implementing the Alaska Reads Act, including the Anchorage School District.
ANCHORAGE, Alaska - A new state law that aims to turn low reading scores around takes effect in classrooms across the state this school year.is to have every student reading at grade level or above by the time they graduate from third grade.
Parents whose students are found to be struggling will get a letter from the district starting next week. Sommerville said parents who receive letters shouldn’t panic — the act requires schools to provide interventions for students who need them and to communicate regularly with parents about student progress.
