A social media notification to Franklin Park residents alerting them about a water main break earlier this month was actually a planned water shut-off due to construction, a village official said. Pete Cajigas, village supervisor of water and sewer, told Pioneer Press that ALAMP construction is in the process of working on the Schiller Boulevard reconstruction project. The project includes new water mains, sewers, sidewalks, curbs and roads between Mannheim Road and Schiller Boulevard east to Scott Street and Schiller Boulevard. In a Sept.
Cajigas explained that when a new water main is installed, the water has to be shut down in that area for the switchover to the new mains. Shutdowns, he said, typically last four to six hours. The village’s post on Facebook reported there was a water main break, but Cajigas said that was incorrect. He said another shutdown had been planned for this week in order to connect Louis Street to the new lines, and he expects others will be scheduled in the coming months.
