Gathering allows fans, former players, family, friends to applaud San Diego State men's basketball team one more time for unprecedented run to NCAA title game

In the seven months since it opened, Snapdragon Stadium has hosted football games, soccer, lacrosse and rugby matches, dirt track events and concerts.

Saturday night was its first Lovefest, with an estimated 5,000 fans showing up at Snapdragon for a celebration of the men’s basketball team’s unprecedented run to the national championship game in the 2023 NCAA Tournament. A stage set up at midfield included a big screen with eight-foot speakers pounding out a beat in the leadup to the celebration. Three dozen members of the SDSU band sat to one side of the stage. All Aztecs players except guard Adam Seiko were in attendance. So were coaches, school officials and city dignitaries.

“Wow, how amazing is this,” SDSU AD John David Wicker said, noting it was one week ago that guard Lamont Butler hit the buzzer-beater that beat Florida Atlantic and send the Aztecs to the national championship game against UConn.
