The Samahang Basketbol ng Pilipinas still has its hands full with the hosting of the final phase of the 2023 FIBA Basketball World Cup that it cannot make a decision right now regarding the resignation of Chot Reyes and the future of Gilas Pilipinas.SBP president Al Panlilio, in an interview with News5 on Tuesday, Sept. 4, said the focus right now of the federation is to ensure the success of the hosting of the knockout stage of the global showpiece at the Mall of Asia Arena.

Slovenia and Germany from Okinawa, Japan and Canada and Latvia from Jakarta, Indonesia arrived on Tuesday to join the USA, Lithuania, Italy, and Serbia in the final phase. Panlilio said the federation is finishing the hosting first before acting on the decision of Reyes who already informed him and PBA chairman Ricky Vargas of the resignation before the announcement was made after Gilas’ 96-75 victory over China.

However, it is urgent for SBP to decide immediately after the World Cup as the Asian Games is just around the corner with the national team still without a coach and with the majority of players, especially those playing overseas, questionable for the continental tiff.
