Gary Thorinson says he feels too much of the city's process for developments happens behind closed doors. yxe
Thorinson said he’s attended several meetings leading up to Wednesday’s vote. He said the process has left him feeling that too much is decided behind closed doors between city planners and developers, and that this proposal is effectively coming to council “pre-approved.”
Thorinson said he wants to see the site developed, but that it should be four storeys at most, and terraced in order to prevent overshadowing of nearby properties. Thorinson said his biggest concerns are about the potential impact on traffic in the area, noting the proposed businesses and residential units would rely on a single-lane alley shared with adjacent homes. He added that there have been no traffic studies done to assess the viability or safety implications of the proposal.
She added the proposal “reinforces a more sustainable growth pattern” for the city by encouraging growth in an area with infrastructure already in place.
