Activate your Online Access NowThe new system would consider the current 360-litre capacity black bins the “large” size; these hold the equivalent of about seven or eight garbage bags, according to a graphic included with the report. City staff propose charging $10.58 a month for households that opt for large bins.
Households using medium-sized bins with a capacity of 240 L, or about five or six garbage bags, would be charged $7.05. City staff recommend bins of either 120 L or 135 L as the smallest size; these would cost households $3.73 per month. The report recommends rolling out the new carts next spring, at which time households will have had a full year to assess what size cart they’ll use, now that the city’s new green bin organic waste collection program is in place.With the start of September heralding the arrival of autumn and back-to-school for students, city council’s transportation committee will be talking about snow.
