Colton Flasch lost a close game to Brad Gushue during a Saturday playoff match in Lethbridge.
Gushue — playing with three players after third Mark Nichols came down with COVID-19 — hit an angle-raise takeout for three with his final shot of the 10th end Saturday afternoon, good for a 9-7 victory in a do-or-die Page playoff game.
Flasch, the Saskatoon-based skip who is representing Saskatchewan, has no further to go after a big run that saw him go 6-2 in pool play, beat wildcard Matt Dunstone of Regina 9-5 in a tiebreaker, and then thump Northern Ontario’s Brad Jacobs 10-3 in Friday’s playoff opener. The loss extends Saskatchewan’s Brier drought to 42 years. Rick Folk won Saskatchewan’s last Brier in 1980.
