KUCHING, March 10 — Elda Siringit’s wish to see her adopted son become a Malaysian citizen finally came true yesterday after waiting for five years for the government to grant his citizenship.

Abell was one of 40 recipients who received citizenship approval letters from Home Minister Datuk Seri Saifuddin Nasution Ismail.“My husband, Edger Rehei, and I have been waiting a very long time for this and we almost felt like giving up after the rejection of the application. “We applied for his citizenship in 2021 when he was just a year old and received the good news that his citizenship has been granted this year.

“But finally, with this letter from the government, we can not proceed to apply for his birth certificate and adopt him through the proper channel,” she said.
