SIBU, July 11 — Meritocratic admission into local public institutions of higher learning should always be emphasised even if the quota system is maintained in the nation’s higher education sector.
“Referring to prime minister’s statement regarding the quota system for admission to IPTAs, STU actually agrees because it is a system that has been practised for a long time in this multi-racial and multi-religious country. “In this century, the meritocracy for IPTA students needs to be emphasised, especially in the field of science and technology that is very important for the country as it moves towards becoming a developed economy,” said Kullin in a statement yesterday.
