Sarawak now says no to food stalls in house compounds

Sarawak’s initial decision allowing Ramadan food stalls to operate out of traders’ homes has been panned for not taking into account health risks amid the Covid-19 outbreak. – The Malaysian Insight file pic, April 23, 2020.

AFTER a hail of protests, Sarawak has reversed its decision allowing food businesses to operate within house compounds during Ramadan. State Tourism, Arts and Culture Minister Abdul Karim Hamzah said traders can instead use online platforms, such as WhatsApp, and e-hailing services to promote and sell their offerings.
