Sarawak DAP rep urges federal govt to relook Covid-19 vaccination for teenagers
KUCHING, Aug 10 — DAP’s Bandar Kuching MP Dr Kelvin Yii today urged the federal government and Special Committee on Covid-19 Vaccine Supply to reconsider their decision not to offer Covid-19 vaccinations to children between the ages of 12 and 17.
Dr Yii said data has shown that children and particularly adolescents can play a significant part in Covid-19 transmission, especially to high-risk groups including grandparents and other family members with co-morbidities. He said the long-term effects of those who have recovered from Covid-19 infections are still unclear.
“These figures speak for themselves. The benefits of vaccinating boys and girls aged 12 to 17 clearly outweigh the risks of myocarditis and pericarditis associated with the mRNA vaccines.
