KUCHING: The Sarawak Legislative Assembly has been dissolved with effect from Nov 3 following the King's consent to revoke the statewide Emergency, says Datuk Patinggi Abang Johari Tun Openg.
The Chief Minister said on Friday the dissolution was proclaimed by Sarawak Governor Tun Abdul Taib Mahmud in accordance with Article 21 of the state constitution and Section 3 of the Emergency Ordinance 2021, and after having been advised that legal and public safety and health considerations have been put in place.
Yang di-Pertuan Agong Al-Sultan Abdullah Ri'ayatuddin Al-Mustafa Billah Shah consented to lift the Emergency in Sarawak on Wednesday , ahead of its scheduled end next February. The Sarawak Legislative Assembly was due to dissolve automatically on June 7 following the expiry of its term, but the state election was suspended due to the nationwide Emergency, which ended on Aug 1, and the subsequent Emergency in Sarawak from Aug 2 to Feb 2, 2022.
