VICE President Sara Duterte denied on Tuesday, August 8, the accusation of activist and former rival for the vice-presidency Walden Bello that she is behind the charges filed by her former aide in Davao City.
Tupas had left the party before the police came for the conduct of a raid where 17 people were arrested. Tupas resigned and, at the same time, was fired by Duterte.Duterte, meanwhile, advised her former fellow candidate to stop"playing the victim of an imaginary case of political persecution." She said that the right to freedom of speech and expression does not protect anyone from defiling the name and reputation of others.
The longtime activist, in response to the Vice President's statement, insisted that she is behind Tupas' filing. “Instead of engaging in democratic exchange, her camp weaponized the law by filing a cyber libel case against me, declaring me persona non grata in Davao and branded me a narco politician...Flowery rhetoric will not disguise Sara Duterte’s assault on a fundamental democratic right. She should act in a manner that befits a vice president and cease disgracing herself and her office by her futile defense of an indefensible act,” he added.
