The Sandiganbayan has denied the motion of the former mayor of Gamu town in Isabela to serve his prison sentence in the municipal police station due to health concerns. | ManilaBulletin
In 2019, former mayor Nestor M. Uy was found guilty of usurpation of authority for which he was sentenced to a prison term ranging from two months and one day to one year, eight months and 21 days.Thereafter, Uy voluntarily surrendered to the Gamu municipal police station. Gamu’s municipal health office issued a medical certificate stating that he was unfit to travel due to illnesses. It was recommended that he remained detained at the Gamu municipal jail.
Thus, the court ruled that Uy should serve his jail term in a city jail or district jail managed by the Bureau of Jail Management and Penology . "Likewise, the Police Chief of the Ilagan District Jail is directed to receive the person of accused Nestor Malasig Uy for the service of his sentence," it added.
Uy was convicted for violating Article 177 of the Revised Penal Code for withholding the appointment papers of the legislative staff of the councilors back in July 2013.
