NEW DELHI: The rape and murder of a trainee doctor in Kolkata last week has brought women onto the streets across India, furious at persistently high levels of sexual violence despite legal reforms and promised crackdowns.
Domestic Trade and Cost of Living Ministry state director Georgie Abas engaging with one of the hawkers during the visit to a general market in Sandakan on Thursday to inspect the supply of essential needs and controlled goods.
The ministry's Sabah state director, Georgie Abas, said the statistics compiled until Thursday , showed 4,223 business premises had been inspected by the branch in the district. During the ground inspection, a case was also opened under the Weights and Measures Act 1972 towards a business operator who was found using a spring scale whose accuracy could not be verified for trading purposes.
