The benefits of youth sports 'far outweigh the risks,' a San Diego sports medicine doctor said.

The end of summer means the start of fall sports season, including popular youth sports like football and soccer. One San Diego sports medicine expert said participation in team sports can have positive physical and mental health impacts for kids of all abilities. "The big benefits I think of team sports, to tell you the truth, are fitness, of course, but more importantly social connectivity," said Dr. Suraj Achar, sports medicine specialist for the 360 Sports Medicine program at Rady Children's Hospital."This is a misconception that it's dangerous, even high school football, outside of concussion, the benefits far outweigh the risks," he said.
