But 'May gray' will soon turn into 'June gloom'
The high-pressure system that brought fair skies to San Diego County on Memorial Day will linger a bit and could push the temperature at San Diego International Airport to 70 degrees or above on Tuesday for the first time since May 15, says the National Weather Service.
But the “May gray” will turn into “June gloom” later this week when cooler air arrives from the Pacific Northwest. As of Monday, the average May temperature was 62.2 degrees, or 2.4 degrees below average. The weather service says the airport could finish the month with the lowest average May temperature since 2010, when the average was 62.1.
The ocean swell that produced big waves Monday along the San Diego County coastline will weaken on Tuesday but could periodically produce sets in the 3- to 6-foot range. And rip currents will remain strong in most places. Sea surface temperatures are in the 64- to 67-degree range.
