San Antonio Zoo to help exotic animal facilities battered by Hurricane Ian

The zoo also participated in relief efforts in the wake of hurricanes Harvey and Laura.

Pending an assessment of needs and “access permissions,” the zoo will send “leadership, an electrician, a welder, and additional multi-trade individuals to assist in clearing debris, restoring power, and fixing facilities and habitats,” according to a news release from the San Antonio Zoo.

The zoo’s efforts stem from its involvement in Zoological Disaster Response, Rescue, and Recovery, also known as — an industry-led organization that supports “exotic animal facilities” in assisting each other “in times of natural disasters or catastrophic events,” according to the organization’s website.
