SAN ANTONIO - San Antonio residents have reported being victimized by phony U.S. Marshal phone calls.
According to the U.S. Marshals Service, there were reported attempts by a fraudulent caller who identified himself as a Deputy United States Marshal. Officials say that the caller informed potential victims that arrest warrants were being issued to them or family members due to not appearing in court.
The potential victims were informed that they could avoid arrest by paying a fine through a cashier's check or electronic fund transfer.“The U.S. Marshals Service is a federal law enforcement agency and does not seek payment of fines or fees via the telephone for individuals with outstanding arrest warrants,” said U.S. Marshal Susan Pamerleau. “Citizens should not divulge personal or financial information to unknown callers.
