San Antonio native Perla Huerta is named in lawsuit over migrant flights to Martha’s Vineyard.
in September has added San Antonio native Perla Huerta to its list of legal targets.
Boston-based Lawyers for Civil Rights, the group suing DeSantis, added Huerta, 43, to its list of defendants in an amended lawsuit it recently filed in federal court in Massachusetts.Text messages and other documents cited in the suit show that the Republican governor’s chief of staff, James Uthmeier, and Florida’s public safety czar, Lawrence Keefe, were intimately involved in the plot from start to finish. Keefe was even in San Antonio for the operation.
The suit asks a judge to stop DeSantis from mounting future immigrant relocations and seeks unspecified compensatory and punitive damages. The federal government had authorized them to remain in the United States as they sought asylum through immigration proceedings. They hired Vertol for the operation, and used one of its employees, Huerta — who also served as a combat medic during her 20-year career in the Army — to help carry it out.According to the lawsuit, the migrants were recruited near the processing center. The suit said the defendants knew none of the migrants “would readily volunteer for their scheme and be sent to an isolated town as fodder for the national media,” so they lied to them.
