Officials thought they would have about 343,420 people flying in and out of the airport between Dec. 23 and Jan. 2, which would have surpassed the record-setting 2019-2020 season total of 318,830 travelers.

The arctic blast caused flight delays and cancellations across the country, but Southwest Airlines’ inability to keep up during and after the storm may have wreaked the most havoc for travelers.Southwest back in the air after holiday week meltdown, but challenges and investigations still loom Operations returned to normal for the carrier Dec. 30 when there were only a handful of canceled flights compared to the dozens that were coming earlier that week. It’s unusual to have more than two cancellations per day at the local airport, but Southwest alone saw as many as 67 in a day at the peak of its fiasco.
