A report claims the Samsung Galaxy S25 line will only use the Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 4, with the Exynos 2500 going to foldables instead.
The chipsets that to into the flagship Samsung Galaxy S devices seem to change with every calendar year. This year, we saw a mix of the company's own Exynos, as well as Qualcomm's Snapdragon being used. Next, year, we may only see the latter being represented in the Samsung Galaxy S25 line, according to a recent report by the Korea Economic Daily, or Hankyung.
The report also notes that the base and Plus models of the Samsung Galaxy S25 will be using the stock Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 4. With that, only the Ultra model will be using a version of the chip that's 'specialised' for it. This may be the iteration of the clocked up versions of the chip that come with the' for Galaxy suffix, which usually is granted to the whole line rather than just the Ultra model.
Also mentioned in the report is that the company is still focusing on improving yield and stabilising performance of the Exynos 2500 chip. Rather than the S25 line, this will instead make its way to the foldables, the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold7 and Z Flip7, which are usually launched in the second half of the year.
If the report is accurate, this will be the first time that the South Korean tech giant has used its own Exynos chip for its foldable phones. Though as the company's in-house silicon has always behaved quite differently compared to the Qualcomm flagship offering, it remains to be seen what this will mean for the Samsung foldables.
