A rare wild deer native to Singapore and confined to forests near the Central Catchment Nature Reserve was found dead after an accident involving a taxi.

In response to queries, Mr How Choon Beng, group director of wildlife management at the National Parks Board , said the agency is aware of a road accident involving a taxi and a sambar deer in Mandai Road on July 11.

It's very unfortunate that this incident occurred 2 nights ago along Mandai Road. Fortunately the party involved were safe. It pained us to see any of the deer injured or killed. The deer are like family members to the team members. Over the years, we've witnessed the older ones pass away and the younger ones being born, growing into young adults. With the aid of field cameras, we have been able to monitor their activities 24/7 across 6 key areas of the central forest.
