A man who police say told a family member to stop arguing or he would stab him has been charged with attacking the victim with a knife.

SALT LAKE CITY —

Isiah James Garcia, 18, was charged Wednesday in 3rd District Court with aggravated assault resulting in serious injury, a second-degree felony. On April 8, a man and a woman were arguing in a home in Salt Lake City. Garcia, who is related to both, told the man to stop arguing or he would stab him. He then grabbed a knife and stabbed the man approximately five times, according to charging documents.

The victim was taken to a local hospital where he underwent emergency surgery, police say. He stayed in the hospital for five days before being released. The attack comes less than two months after Garcia hit his mother in the face with a chair, giving her a broken nose and a concussion, according to court documents. He was charged in that case with aggravated assault, a third-degree felony.
