NSTnation Saifuddin: Malaysia will support efforts to de-escalate tension in Gulf region
Foreign Minister Datuk Saifuddin Abdullah said although the country was not a main player in the conflict, Malaysia would support efforts by the relevant parties to ease the crisis in the area.“We want the situation to be peaceful again,” he said yesterday.
If Malaysians needed to be evacuated from Iran and Iraq, Saifuddin said preparations had been carried out, including holding inter-agency meetings, monitoring the situation round the clock and touching base with Malaysian missions in the two countries. On Wednesday, Wisma Putra advised Malaysians to defer non-essential trips to areas in the Middle East that were in conflict.
