NSTsports: Kim Swee said the decision not to call up Safawi, who scored a brace against Indonesia, was done in the best interest of all.

Seven players from the senior team, that beat Indonesia 2-0 in Tuesday’s pre-World Cup match, reported to Kim Swee at the MPSJ Stadium in Subang, with Safawi being the only notable absentee.

The seven are Adam Nor Azlin, Dominic Tan, Haziq Nadzli, Syamer Kutty Abba, Akhyar Rashid, Syahmi Safari and Daniel Amier Norhisham. Kim Swee said the decision not to call up Safawi, who scored a brace against Indonesia, was done in the best interest of all. “It was a difficult decision for me to make. Safawi deserves a break as he has played too many matches for both country and club this year,” said the coach yesterday.“I was the one who made the decision and Safawi himself understands why he was not called up.

“It is for his own good as well as for Johor Darul Ta'zim and the national team. I hope everyone will understand.”“If Safawi was in the squad, it would mean limited opportunities for other attacking players.”Adam plays in defence while Irfan is a defensive midfielder.
