JDT made a commendable debut in the competition last year with a home win over Japanese giants Kashima Antlers. They then drew at home against Gyeongnam FC of South Korea but finished bottom of the four-team Group E with four points after six matches.
Safawi, who made his ACL debut with a goal in the 1-2 loss to Shandong last year, said JDT’s comprehensive preparation will stand them in good stead for this year’s campaign. The 22-year-old Dungun-born Safawi said that playing against star-studded Vissel would be a daunting task as they have former Barcelona skipper Andres Iniesta and ex-Arsenal defender Thomas Vermaelen.
