Queensland parks service investigates after the words ‘Jesus saves just ask him’ carved into rock at Mt Beerwah
Parks and Wildlife Service is investigating after a sacred Indigenous site on the Sunshine Coast was defaced with a religious message.
“It is difficult to understand the mindset of the people who did this and the lack of respect they have for the natural and cultural values of the national park.” Murphy has protested against people climbing the mountain, which he says is seen by traditional owners as an ancestral spirit.“We see her as a mother and, you know, for someone to go and carve into her that deep … it’s sort of like, someone’s gone and, and cut into our ancestral mother,” Murphy told ABC News.“This vandalism is deliberate and destructive, and someone in the community will know who did it,” Smith said.
