Former Home Affairs secretary Mike Pezzullo is set to be stripped of his Order of Australia, Sky News can reveal.
Former Home Affairs Department secretary Mike Pezzullo to be stripped of Order of Australia months after being sacked
There was no corruption or criminality involved, yet procedural steps are underway to strip Mr Pezzullo of his AO. Pezzullo was made an Officer of the Order of Australia in the 2020 Queens Birthday Honours for distinguished services to public administration through leadership roles in the areas of national security, border control and immigration.Since the inception of Australia’s honours system, at least 46 people have been stripped of awards; the vast majority for criminal or civil convictions.

He worked for Labor Foreign Minister Gareth Evans in the 90’s and Labor leader Kim Beazley more than two decades ago, where they first discussed setting up a Home Affairs super-ministry.
