Sabah Electricity Sdn Bhd (SESB) has once again issued a warning to contractors performing wiring work near its installations, urging them to contact their nearest branch beforehand to prevent accidents. The reminder comes after a 19-year-old man was electrocuted while installing a telecommunications system near an electrical pole in Membakut. SESB CEO Mohd Yusmanizam Mohd Yusof expressed concern over recurring electrocution incidents and offered condolences to the victim's family. He highlighted similar cases from the previous year, emphasizing the need for contractors to prioritize safety by contacting SESB before commencing any electrical work. Yusmanizam also stated that SESB will collaborate with the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) and relevant departments to ensure contractors and workers involved in telecommunications installations adhere to proper safety measures.

SESB chief operating officer Mohd Yusmanizam Mohd Yusof said in a statement Friday that the utility company was concerned about frequent electrocution incidents.Offering condolences to the victim’s family, he said a similar case occurred early last year where two contract workers were fatally electrocuted while installing fibre-optic cables for a telecommunications company in Kota Marudu district.
