Sabah PKR expresses dissatisfaction over Upko's leadership of Pakatan Harapan, citing the party's newness to the coalition and questioning their eligibility to lead. The dispute stems from a democratic decision that saw Upko president Datuk Ewon Benedick elected as chairman, replacing Datuk Seri Christina Liew.
Sabah Pakatan Harapan is facing uncertainty as Sabah PKR expresses discontent over the coalition's leadership being held by Upko , a 'small local party'. Despite the democratic decision that saw incumbent chairman Datuk Seri Christina Liew ousted by three votes in favor of Upko president Datuk Ewon Benedick, Sabah PKR Leadership Council (MPN) secretary Sazalye Donol argues that such a process is unprecedented.
He emphasizes that the position rightfully belongs to PKR and awaits the final decision from Pakatan chairman Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim. Sazalye explains that historically, there has never been a selection process for the position, and they were not informed of a representative from Kuala Lumpur chairing the Sabah PKR Annual General Meeting on December 1st. They claim to have expressed their dissatisfaction and requested a postponement, but it was denied. Sazalye questions Upko's eligibility to lead, citing their relative newness to the coalition and stating that their eagerness to claim the position despite their lack of experience is questionable. He argues that longer-standing members like DAP are more suitable. Furthermore, he refutes Sabah DAP chairman Datuk Phoong Jin Zhe's claim that there is no PKR quota in Sabah, asserting that it has always been a key factor. The internal dispute within Sabah Pakatan raises concerns about its ability to maintain influence in the state
