Sabah Governor Tun Dr Musa Aman urged Sabahans to continue safeguarding unity, harmony, and cultural heritage as they celebrate Pesta Kaamatan 2026.
Kota Kinabalu: Sabah Governor Tun Musa Aman called on Sabahans to continue safeguarding the unity, harmony and cultural heritage that have long defined the State as they celebrate Pesta Kaamatan 2026 .
In his Kaamatan message, Musa said the annual harvest festival, celebrated on May 30 and 31, remained one of Sabah’s most treasured cultural celebrations, symbolising gratitude, togetherness and mutual respect among the people. Advertisement He said the festival symbolises rich cultural heritage, enduring spirit and unity of the people of Sabah as it is rooted in gratitude for a bountiful harvest and traditions passed down through generations.

The harmony and understanding shared among Sabahans continue to serve as an example to the nation, and we must continue rejecting divisive rhetoric, extremism and narrow sentiments that threaten the unity and goodwill we have nurtured for generations.
“At the same time, we must continue preserving and honouring our cultural traditions, indigenous heritage and the values inherited from our forefathers,” he said. Advertisement Musa said the traditions, languages, arts and customs of the local communities are invaluable treasures that form the identity and soul of Sabah and hence, it is the collective responsibility of all Sabahans to ensure these legacies continue to thrive for future generations.
He also stressed the importance of ensuring balanced development across Sabah as the State progresses economically.
“As Sabah progresses towards greater development and economic growth, it is important that no community or region is left behind. Continued emphasis must be placed on education, skills training, infrastructure, digital connectivity and economic opportunities, particularly in rural and interior areas,” he said.
In addition, Musa said the State’s younger generation must also be equipped with knowledge, discipline, resilience and strong values to contribute meaningfully towards Sabah’s future. He said Kaamatan is also a time for meaningful occasion with family and loved ones and for Sabahans to reflect on the values of gratitude, compassion and unity while continuing to work together towards a peaceful, progressive and prosperous Sabah.
On behalf of himself and his wife, he once again wished all Sabahans celebrating the festival a Happy Harvest Festival.
